Miri, Sarawak is a cradle of food and cozy massage parlours. It is unlike Kuala Lumpur, where traffic jams and bustling cars are the norm. Here, Miri provides you the ease to drive from this side of the town to the other side of the town in the blink of an eye. It is also pleasing to the eyes. Situated between the blue ocean and green forest and palm oil plantation, Miri offers you everything you can dream of in a vacation. Sun, sea and the forest.
#1 Nasi Kerabu and Ayam Berempah at Restoran 'D' Selera Kelate
Aside from the usual delicious Mee Kolok, I was given the golden opportunity to feast upon the gastronomical Nasi Kerabu with flavoured chicken in Restoran 'D' Selera Kelate, Miri located along Jalan Datuk Edward Keli.
We ordered one of their famous dishes, Nasi Kerabu with Ayam Berempah for only RM10.00. Sprinkled with fried Serai flakes and spices, the chicken hits all the right notes on your taste buds. Not to mention the sweet and sour chilli and coconut flakes they put on top of the blue rice, it leaps on your taste glands and keeps your appetite aflame. The diced cold cabbage is slightly blanched (I believe) and combined with a slightly tangy taste of sauce. Together with some keropok and salted egg, every mouth was a satisfying experience for me. They offer an array of Malay Cuisine as well, such as Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng and much more.

#2 Peach and Banana Yogurt Smoothie at Tim's Seaside Hideout
Along the way to Gua Niah - a once popular tourist attraction - we came across a signboard at Beraya which writes "Tim's Seaside Hideout" and we decided to give it a try. Once we've turned into the junction, the scenery broadened into a wide, blue ocean. And squatting right beside it, was a cluster of wooden houses with a hint of modern architecture and a local Malay and aborigine touch.
The owner was kind to show us around the guest house. The individual huts are comfortably set facing the sea, so when the dusk comes, people get to take the first glimpse of the majestic sunset on the sea horizon. They offer barbeque pits and the cafe serves warm food. We decided to try their peach and banana yogurt smoothie for RM12.00 and iced-lemon tea. I would say it is so wonderful and thoughtful of the cafe to provide us with a cute mason jar with a lid as drink containers. The taste is awesome especially the texture is smooth, not lumpy, and with a little sweetness that is enough to get us freshen up. The thing I like most, is that this place feels untouched and virgin to the land.
Miri is such a wonderful place. If you have any hidden gems to share with me, please do not hesitate to post in the comment section below.
